About

The Social Work Practitioner offers practical guidance to Social Workers, students, supervisors, not-for-profit managers, or anyone working in a human services capacity.  The focus of TSWP is general social work practice, social work supervision, and program management.  The issues and skill sets explored in TSWP are broadly applicable across specializations and are, in most cases, timeless.

Thank you so much for reading my blog—I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it. And thank you, too, for the great generosity of spirit you show in nominating me for the Liebster Award. My feelings at this time are mixed, when it comes to awards.

A few years back I read a book called “Mutant Message Down Under,” about one woman’s “walkabout” with one of the last remaining Aboriginal Australian tribes. In describing their culture, she spoke of a game the tribe played where they would tear a giant leaf from one of their native plants into many small pieces. Those who chose to play would take turns reconstructing the leaf, one piece at a time. When the leaf had been completely put back together, like a giant puzzle, there would be a celebration. Everybody won!

This got me thinking. I love the idea of everybody winning, and while admittedly competitive on some level, if I “win,” others “lose.” So for now, at least, I think I’ll hold back on entering into or participating in a competition as such. We’re all bringing something to the table here by sharing our knowledge and experience, our hopes and dreams, and for that—we’ve already won.

It would be amazing if the social work community had another blogger. I look forward to checking out your site once it’s up and running! The first post is always the toughest… Good luck!

Sarah, I’m up and running—hope you enjoy. I’ve been so busy trying to get this thing going (still a few bugs to work out), that I haven’t had an opportunity to sit back and indulge in ‘rootedinbeing.’ But I very much look forward to it in the next day or so!

Thank you so much for following me!
